Happy 1st Birthday Jett!!!

I am a month or so behind. Better late then never!

Happy FIRST Birthday to our awesome son, Jett Michael!!!!! His birthday fell on a Thursday this year and we were excited to have his Halmunee (my mom) & Granpapa (my stepdad) to come vistit for Jett's birthday and birthday party. I decided to keep it low key on his actual birthday because I knew in a couple of days we will have tons more going on at the party.

We knew Jett loves balloons so I stopped on my way home and picked up a helium balloon. Jett was amazed by it and couldn't stop playing with it.

I made Jett's favorite meal, Spaghetti & Meatballs (I posted this recipe January). I baked his cake the night before and left it out to ice the next day. Of course our 3 furbabies wanted to join in the festivities of Jett's birthday and decided to test out the cake and ended up eating it all themselves. So Daddy made a strawberry cake with cream cheese icing for Jett.

We brought the cake over with a candle and sang Happy Birthday. Jett didn't understand why everyone was singing and why mommy was bringing over this big plate with fire on it.

We blew out the candles together and cut a couple of slices for the adults. And it was GAME ON. 1st piece of cake for Jett!

He had a great time and so did we watching him dive into his birthday cake. He was a mess, but it was worth it!! Can't believe he is a year already. It just felt like yesterday we were holding our 7lb 9oz little newborn. We love you our sweet son.

Confessions of a New Mommy....I am unhappy....

This blog is really not the true topic you would be reading about (DIY stuff), but I need to get this off my chest. To make me sane again as a person. I am going to lay it all out in the open, which I rarely do (I feel like Jerry in the movie "Jerry Maguire" at this point ha!). Do you want to know what it is really like to be a first time mom? The truth not the "fluff" about how it is really hard, but the most rewarding thing EVER and so on and so on (it is rewarding, but there is more too it). Keep reading! I have officially been a mother to a live male human being for 18 weeks & 4 days. In the books you read and in the clasess you are told that this thing called being a mom is HARD because you will be so tired with the feedings, putting the baby to sleep and blah blah blah......  Yes yes  yes yes....I am tired & sleepy....with my son thinking I am an "all you can eat buffet" at 2 am & 4 am. Yes yes yes yes....I am frustrated that my baby do...

Jett's Nursery... Renovation

We started to work on the room slowly, but surely in September. We first had a garage sale to get everything out of the room. It was basically used as a storage room and it was packed from floor to ceiling. Luckily we were able to sell the majority of the items. Thank goodness!! The Garage Sale!! Second was tearing everything out of the room. This was the fun part! Pulled out all the carpet, everything out of the closet (shelving, poles, racks, etc.).  The dogs even wanted to help out! ;-) Third Mike worked on some great solid pieces of furniture (dresser, tv armoire & crib) to refinish. This took a while since it was sooooo time consuming. We wanted black with some antiquing. Mike of course added his awesome creativity to it all with some stencil work and lining the interiors with some awesome mod podge work. It was worth every minute. He did an INCREDIBLE job! The pieces look soooo awesome! My Dresser Growing Up Before..... Inside t...

80s Homecoming Theme 40th Party!

When I heard the idea of an 80s prom for a birthday party. I knew this was something I had to do for for my husband one day, who grew up in the 80s. What better birthday milestone to throw this party was the big 4-0! I had this theme in my head for years! I was always looking for cheap venues, decor ideas, and outfits. 6 months prior to his birthday party. I decided to change it from an 80s prom theme party to a 80s homecoming theme party. Almost exactly the same. I only did this because I wanted our guests to have more options when it came to their wardrobe. I know some homecomings in the 80s were really formal, but some were not. I just wanted a variety of options for our awesome guests! As I mentioned I looked at all sorts of venues. I wanted my backdrop to be an old school gym. I knew a lot of these dances took place in a stinky gym. I had no luck finding a gym, but I found a great community center in my local town. The price was right, but they required us to have at least...
